England's legendary left-back Stuart Pearce has insisted Ashley Cole is the best player in the position in the nation's history.Pearce, 48, forged a reputation as an uncompromising defender during his 78 caps in his international career.The assistant to Fabio Capello will be away guiding the Under-21 side when the Chelsea player is expected to gain his 86th cap against Montenegro on Tuesday night to equal Kenny Samson's full-back appearance record, and Pearce is unequivocal in his praise of Cole."Ashley's pace is a real big strength, his ability on the ball and the way in which he deals with the ball for a full-back is outstanding," said Pearce."Ashley is the best left-back England's ever had, 100 per cent."It is hard to find a weakness in his game."At the highest level, his performances for England have been fantastic."There is no doubt in my mind he is the best left-back ever to play for England."
