Slovakia announce squad for Ireland and Armenia for euro 2012 qualifiers

Slovakian boss Vladimir Weiss last night announced his 24 man squad for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2012 Qualifiers against Armenia on Friday, October 8th, and the Republic of Ireland four days later, on Tuesday, October 12th.The country’s top scorer, Ankaragücü striker Robert Vittek is still absent due to a knee injury. Vittek scored twice against Italy in this summer’s World Cup and helped them progress from a difficult group, getting two more along the way. His injury will besure to please Irish boss Giovanni Trapattoni.Goalkeeper Dusan Kuciak of Romanian club Vaslui and Dusan Svento of Red Bull Salzburg have also been left out of the squad, which beat Russia and Macedonia earlier this month. West Brom defender Marek Cech also misses out.Filip Holosko of Besiktas and Dinamo Zagreb’s Jakub Sylvestr have both been drafted into the squad.Slovakia take on Ireland on October 8th at the Štadión pod Dubňom in Žilina, where Aiden McGeady ran riot for Spartak Moscow earlier this week.
