Ched Evans has warned Championship rivals to expect more from him this season

The Welsh international notched the only goal of the game, and his second of the season, against Portsmouth at Bramall Lane last weekend.

The second-half free-kick handed the Blades, who are still adjusting to life under new manager Gary Speed, a welcome three points following their 4-0 home thumping at the hands of Scunthorpe.

But Evans, who was called into the squad for Wales' Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro earlier this month, feels he is yet to hit his stride this campaign.

"I'm not 100 per cent match fit yet," Evans told skysports.com.

"When you go away on international duty, you're not always working as hard as you should be and you're eating twice the amount as well.

"You have your breakfast, then your lunch, then after training you have some more.

"It's all laid on for you, and you have to go and show your face. You wouldn't really get that here, so sometimes internationals can be a bad thing when you go away."

Slow start

After a slow start to the season, which ultimately cost former boss Kevin Blackwell his job, Evans feels the Blades have reached a turning point.

"We have been creating chances all season and we battered Scunthorpe, despite losing 4-0, but we weren't great against Portsmouth and won, so hopefully our luck has changed," he said.

"The lads are full of confidence because as a team we know our jobs and everyone is looking forward to a good season.

"We need to get on a good run and I am sure that will see us getting towards the top six."
